Independence Hall

Independence Hall — Beit Ha'atzma'ut — is the small museum at 16 Rothschild Boulevard where David Ben-Gurion declared the State of Israel on 14 May 1948. The building was originally the home of Meir Dizengoff, the first mayor of Tel Aviv, who left it to the city as an art museum.

The visit centres on the small upstairs hall in which the declaration was read, preserved as it stood in 1948 with the original chairs and the table at which Ben-Gurion stood. A short multimedia presentation precedes the visit. About forty-five minutes; small entry fee; closed Saturdays.
