Chishaku-in is a Shingon Buddhist temple near Sanjusangen-do and the Kyoto National Museum. It is quieter than many of Higashiyama's headline temples, but it rewards a stop for its painted screens, spacious halls, and garden traditionally linked with tea master Sen no Rikyu.
It works well as part of a southern Higashiyama walk, especially if you want a calmer temple between the museum district and the Kiyomizu-dera approach.
