Kyoto City Zoo is a compact city zoo near the museums and temples of eastern Kyoto. It has the usual big-cat, monkey, aviary, and reptile exhibits, plus a few native Japanese animals. It is not one of Kyoto's essential sights, but it can be a useful family stop when children need a break from temple-hopping around Higashiyama.
