The Reizei Family Residence is the only surviving complete residence of a kuge, an Imperial court noble family. The house is still occupied by the Reizei family, whose literary and court traditions reach back through Kyoto's aristocratic history.
It is not normally open as a regular museum, but limited open days are held a few times a year. If your visit lines up with one, it offers a rare look at a living court-family residence rather than a reconstructed palace.
