Taihō-an is a municipal tea house in Uji, close to Byōdō-in and the river. It is a useful, low-key place to try a formal tea ceremony in a traditional room with tatami and table seating.
The tea served is usually sencha or matcha, depending on the day. Buy tickets at the tourist information office next door.
