Zuishin-in

Zuishin-in is a quiet temple in southeast Kyoto associated with Ono no Komachi, the Heian-period poet whose beauty and legends have echoed through Japanese literature for a thousand years. The temple tells the story of Prince Fukakusa, who is said to have courted her for 99 nights before dying on the last night before she would accept him.

It is a more reflective stop than Kyoto's headline temples, with gardens, painted screens, and a strong literary atmosphere. Pair it with Daigo-ji if you are exploring this side of the city.
