Mishima-tei

Sukiyaki institution operating from the same Sanjo townhouse since 1873, a Kyoto classic

Mishima-tei has been serving sukiyaki and shabu-shabu from its dark-timbered machiya on Sanjo-dori since 1873, making it one of the oldest restaurants in the city. The beef comes from Omi-gyu cattle raised in nearby Shiga Prefecture, and the cooking is done tableside by a kimono-dressed attendant in the traditional Kyoto style. Private tatami rooms overlook a small courtyard garden.

The lunch sets are a more affordable entry point into the menu. The restaurant sits at the east end of Nishiki Market, a short walk from Kawaramachi Station.
