Hosen-in is a small temple in Ohara, close to Sanzen-in, known for a quiet garden framed from the temple rooms and a pine tree said to be several centuries old. Its ceiling also preserves boards associated with Fushimi Castle, a detail shared by several Kyoto temples with links to that battle.
The temple is worth adding to an Ohara visit when you want a slower stop after the larger Sanzen-in complex. It rewards sitting for a few minutes rather than rushing through.
