Kyoto Aquarium is a modern aquarium in Umekoji Park, just west of Kyoto Station. Its displays range from small fish and garden eels to seals, dolphins and giant salamanders, with enough hands-on and family-focused exhibits to make it a useful rainy-day stop.
It combines well with the Kyoto Railway Museum next door. Families with children will get the most from it, but the giant salamander displays give it a local angle that feels more Kyoto than a standard city aquarium.
