Kikunoi Roan is the Gion annexe of the three-star Kikunoi main restaurant, offering a more accessible version of the same seasonal kaiseki menu at roughly half the price. The machiya townhouse setting, with a small stone garden visible through the window, captures the atmosphere of traditional Kyoto dining without the full formality. The lunch course is particularly good value.
Chef Murata Yoshihiro's kitchen interprets Kyoto's traditional tofu and vegetable cooking alongside fish and meat courses. Reserve at least two weeks in advance for dinner; same-week bookings are often possible for lunch.
