Shōji-ji is a quiet Buddhist temple southwest of central Kyoto, nicknamed the "cherry blossom temple" for its spring display. It is not one of Kyoto's headline sights, but that is part of the appeal: come in blossom season and you get a softer, more local temple visit away from the busiest routes.
